Styling my Altuzarra boots

Edgy Look

Hello Fashionistas! It's hump-day (I know it's already Thursday in the UK, but my West Coasters still have a couple more hours here in the States). Where does the time go? Monday went by so fast that it feels like I completely missed Tuesday. Oh well, Fri-Yay is on its way. I wanted to do this post for a while now, but the weather hasn't been cooperating with me. It's still warm here in the South; not complaining, just would like a little drop in the temperature. Not wanting to wait any longer, I went ahead and created three different looks for my Altuzarra x Target over-the-knee boots. I already have my favorite look in mind and will be sharing in a later blog post. However, I could be swayed.

Oh Roberto!

Hello Fashionistas!
How are you enjoying your weekend so far? Mine has been really busy and going by way too fast. Actually, I've started this post several times and now here it is 1:55 in the (Sunday) morning and I'm now just getting back to it. So, needless to say this will be short. I was able to squeeze in a movie - the much anticipated - Gone Girl. I'm so disturbed. Have you seen this movie?

I thought it was cold outside so I got my favorite sweater ready. Once outside I realized, it's not even that serious. And, of course, there was no going back in the house to change. Why are men so impatient? lol.

Top: Roberto Cavalli
Pants: Adrienne Vittadini

Shoes: Coach

Oscar de la Renta

Hello Fashionistas!
I woke up to sad news today that Oscar de la Renta has passed. Upsetting news for the fashion community for sure. This man was not only a designer, he was a visionary. He created clothes for women who were successful, elegant, sophisticated and confident. He catered to those women and in turn became one of the best designers of the 20th and 21st century. His staple was feminine, elegant and chic. No wonder why he was a constant on the red carpet and featured in numerous movies. Also, you remember the pink dress Carrie Bradshaw wore in Sex and the City, where she takes Aleksandr Petrovsky to McDonald's? That dress was to die for. And, yes! That was Oscar de la Renta. I've put together some of my favorite pieces from Oscar de la Renta over the last decade. Do you have a favorite look from Oscar de la Renta?

"Every season I am inspired by women." ~ Oscar de la Renta

"My job as a designer is to make a woman feel her very best." ~ Oscar de la Renta

"I like light, color, luminosity. I like things full of color and vibrant." ~ Oscar de la Renta

"I do not have one theme for each season, I just try to make beautiful clothes all year round." ~ Oscar de la Renta

"The great thing about fashion is that it always looks forward." ~ Oscar de la Renta

"We're dealing with sophisticated customers. What's most important to these women is individuality. I have to create things she'll want to wear, no matter who she is."
~ Oscar de la Renta

"We live in an era of globalization and the era of the woman. Never in the history of the world have women been more in control of their destiny." ~ Oscar de la Renta

"I want to make clothes that people will wear, not style that will make a big splash on the runway." ~ Oscar de la Renta

"Fashion is about dressing according to what's fashionable. Style is more about being yourself." ~ Oscar de la Renta

Alexander Wang and H&M

Hello Fashionistas! TGIF!
Any big plans for the weekend? I would love to hear about them. I have family visiting so I'm trying to think up some fun things for us to do (just us girls). On to the blog post. I'm pretty sure you're all aware of Alexander Wang and H&M's collaboration, right? This has been in the news since April. I think. This is something a lot of designers are doing, making affordable pieces for customers who love their designs but can't afford the high-end stuff. I think it's smart. Other designers that have done this are: Altuzarra for Target, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte and Zac Posen. Narciso Rodriguez for DesigNation at Kohl's, also Derek Lam.  When I first saw these looks for the collection, I was a little bit disappointed to be honest. I was not expecting such a sporty collection. I love that he decided to keep the color palette dark, but the sporty look is not really my cup of tea. The dresses are not so bad - depending on the material - they could work as edgy LBDs with the right heels and accessories; they could go from sporty to flirty. I'm on the fence. As it is a woman's prerogative to change her mind, the verdict is still out until I see the pieces in person. Let me know what you think of the collection from Alexander Wang for H&M? Will you be purchasing any of the pieces on November 6th? Of all the collaborations so far, which has been your favorite?

Max Studio & Natural Life

Hello Fashionistas! How was your Monday? I had tons to do, from cleaning up around the house, making dinner, project researching and responding to emails, the day practically flew by. Today, I woke up energized and ready to blog, no vacay needed. What to blog about? That's usually how it starts for me. Then I remembered I received a scarf from Natural Life in my swag bag at the Media Preview Day and bingo. Now what to pair it with? Well, the weather outside made the decision for me. It started to pour down from around noon until late evening. I thought I would wait it out before going outside to snap some pics; However I changed my mind and instead went out and played in it like I did when I was a kid, and didn't know any better. I put on my favorite rain boots (the one that the hubster hates, but it matches my scarf perfectly) and a top/dress by Max Studio. I call it a top/dress because in my opinion it's too short as a dress so I always where it as a top. Let me know what you think of my pairing.

Scarf: ℅ Natural Life (@ the St. Johns Town Center)
Top/Dress: Max Studio
Tights: Unknown
Rain boots: Capelli (Rack Room Shoes) (last seen here) & (here)
Ring: Gifted

#NordstromJax: Beauty Bash

Hello Fashionistas! The weekend is almost over (unless you don't have to work tomorrow, Columbus Day) (Or, celebrating Thanksgiving Day in Canada) and what a weekend it's been! Hope you all have enjoyed it, I certainly have and now I'm exhausted. From the Media Preview Day, Gala and Beauty Bash, I'm in serious need of a mini vacay. However, I was able to squeeze in a movie date night and went to see family at FAMU. I even caught the game, FAMU vs. SSU. I have first hand experience on why The Marching 100 are considered the "Best Marching Band in the Nation". On to the Beauty Bash, which occurred on Friday, October 10th from 8AM -10AM. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Let us in!

Mr. Nordstrom (one of the fourth generation Nordstroms) being interviewed

I had a wonderful time at the Beauty Bash event on Friday. There were a lot of cosmetic counters to choose from but I went to my favorite, MAC. I had my eyes done by the lovely Nina @nina4urmakeup who actually works at the Avenues Mall but she was helping out at Nordstrom for the day. There were sips and snacks, fragrance samples, prizes and goodie bags. The count down for the grand opening started a little earlier than expected due to the crowds eagerness to get in and shop. The store was filled with excited shoppers going from 1st to 2nd floor trying on items and consulting with the lovely personal stylists available. Interviews were conducted by various media channels and customers responded with enthusiasm and elation that Nordstrom was finally here in Jacksonville, FL.
